2007 Cardiac Algorithm - Step 2
Active cardiac disease?
Does the patient have active cardiac conditions for which the patient should undergo evaluation and treatment before surgery?
Yes, Has Active Cardiac Disease
Non-emergency surgery
Acute cardiac disease
Evaluate & treat active cardiac disease -- evaluate, stabilize, optimize
then consider Operating Room
No Acute Coronary Syndrome
ⓘ active cardiac conditions
Unstable coronary syndromes, i.e. unstable or severe angina; recent MI (within 1 month)
CHF: severe (class IV), new, or worsening
Significant arrhythmia: high grade AVB, Mobitz II AVB, 3rd deg AVB, symptomatic ventricular arrhythmia, supraventricular arrhythmia including a-fib with uncontrolled ventricular rate (>100), symptomatic bradycardia, new V-tach
Severe valve disease, i.e. severe AS, symptomatic MS
